Logan Thibault...Southpark Version!

My character is Logan Thibault from the book, The Lucky One. He is an ex-marine, who finds a picture of a woman on one of his runs. He keeps it and is later told from one of his best friends that it's a 'good luck charm'. He walks from Colorado to Hampton, North Carolina to find her and tell her thank you for keeping him safe during the war.

The Odyssey (Part 1)

Homer uses different kinds of literary devices in The Odyssey. An example of a simile in the story is "Then he dismembered them and made his meal, gaping and crunching like a mountain lion...". This quote explains how gruesome Polyphemus, the Cyclops, can be as he feasts on the humans that take shelter in his cave. Another example of a literary device is an epithet, which is used in the story along the lines of "When the young Dawn with fingertips of rose lit up the world...". This is describing the morning light as the sun rises and fills the area with life and color. Irony is also used when Odysseus tells the Cyclops that his name is 'Nohbdy' when it really is Odysseus. He uses the believing Cyclops to his advantage when Odysseus stabs Polyphemus's only eye, Polyphemus cries for help yelling, "Nohbdy, Nohbdy's tricked me, Nohbdy's ruined me!" When the Cyclops companions hear this, they shrug off his cries because they understand that nobody is bothering him.
The message to the Greeks that Homer was sending in this story is if you do something bad, bad events will happen to you. If you do something good, good events will happen to you. Polyphemus had treated human beings horribly and viewed them just as edible food to go with his whey from his ewes that he milks. For this action, he had lost his eye to Odysseus and had to live the rest of his life blind. Odysseus also is a victim of karma as he is too prideful on his adventures. He is faced with many hard events and loses many of his best men and companions.

The Lucky One (Post 1)

The Lucky One is about a man named Logan Thibault, who's on an adventure, with his dog named Zeus, to find the woman in the picture he found on one of his runs in his tour of Iraq. Logan was in the marine corps, and when he arrived back at the base, he pins it to the message board for someone to claim. When it's obvious that no one has lost the picture, he took the photo down and kept it. He started to win more money in his poker games, and he realized that the picture was his lucky charm. He starts to come up with facts like the photograph was taken in Hampton, and her first name started with the letter E.
The story also tells about Beth's and Clayton's lives. They had a son together named Ben, and he's not very athletic, a characteristic Clayton doesn't like. Ben gets along with his mother more than his father because it is easier to shine in her eyes than his father's. Ben liked to read books and play the violin while his father was part of the sheriff department.

3 Things For 2012

1. My best learning experience so far in 9th grade has been watching movies on the books we were reading to to get an idea of what the characters look, act, and behave like. This enabled me to understand the story better, and it gave me an understanding of the plot and setting.

2. My worst moment in 9th grade so far has been keeping up with all the assignments in my different classes. Since I have an A/B schedule, it's harder to remember which assignments are due on which days. Since it can get hectic, I rely HEAVILY on my planner.

3. My academic resolution is to finish my 9th grade year with straight A's. It also means passing my finals and making 90's or above in my pre-ap classes before the pre-ap extra points are added.
